TYPE OF YOJANA : This is a all digital library that stores information (Metadata) about different types of digital content including Books, Articles, Videos, Audios, Research papers and other educational material useful to users of various educational levels and capabilities.

PURPOSE : The main purpose of this yojana is to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single window search facility. This is a project undertaken under NMEICT initiative of the ministry.
Another important purpose is to provide this single window search facility to access all Digital content that is available in India and in such other digital databases elsewhere.

The purpose of this yojana is to establish a 24×7 one stop single window access to wide variety of digital resources. This yojana gives choices of various types of education levels, various languages, various types of media contents, various types of difficulty levels to the user.
STRUCTURE : This is a yojana initiated and funded by Ministry of Human Resource Development ( MHRD) and managed and coordinated by IIT-Kharagpur. This open to all after you Register yourself and create your log in id and password. You can login after that and use this facility. This facility is available absolutely FREE.

The learning resources available on this website include Question papers, solutions, web courses, data sets, annual reports, books, thesis, audio -video clips, manuscripts, articles, monographs, manuals etc.

This e-library presently has 1.8 crores resources of various types including 65 Lakhs books.
LAUNCHING DETAILS : This yojana was launched by Hon. Shri Prakash Jawadekar, Union Minister for Human Resource Development on 19th June 2018 on the occasion of National Reading Day at New Delhi.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE : To participate and use this digital library you have to register your self on the web site https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in. When you open this website you have to go to the Register option. You have to put all your name, date of birth and other details including your mail id and provide a pass word. Once you complete the registration process you will receive an email for confirmation. Once you complete this process you can start using the website.
BENEFICIARIES : Till date 30 Lakh users have registered themselves on the National Digital Library. The number is growing every day.
